The Moral of Flowers by Rebecca Hey - 1836

London, Leeds: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green & Longman; and M Robinson, 1836 A very good copy of the third edition of this relatively scarce work by Rebecca Hey (who is not named on the title page), with 23 hand coloured plates as called for. In contemporary full morocco binding with extensive gilt decoration to boards, inner board edges and spine. The binding has been rebacked, relaying the spine which is largely complete. The repair has made the book tighter and it does not lie flat on opening. There is light wear to corners, and light scuffs to boards. The original endpapers have been retained with repair. All page edges gilted. Contents with 3 initial blanks (the third with owner's inscriptions); plate 1 as frontispiece; title page; advertisement to the third edition; preface; contents and plate list; text and 22 hand coloured plates. Around 8 plates lack tissue guards and the guard to plate 6 has been torn in half and is detached. The remaining guards are generally spotty. Plate 8 and p 47 are spotty and there is some spotting to rear blanks. Otherwise in very good clean condition with light toning to margins towards the edges.
