London : Ward Lock, 1905. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Issued Without Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Ward Lock "The Captain Library" edition not dated (pre 1910) but were issued between 1900-1912. Hardback book is tight, clean, and square. Boards have sharp corners, except bottom corner of upper board is lightly bumped, the panels are clean. The front panel title gilt has a touch of dulling and minor rubbing but is still pleasing to the eye, as does the illustrative panel. Text block clean has a dusty top edge, and toning to foreedge and bottom edge, which also have a four light spots . The pages are crisp and unblemished, usually on checking the book there does not appear to be any spots on any of the pages and it doesn't feel over read, The front hinge is stressed but not yet starting, the volume as a whole is very well bound. There are expected bumps to spine ends, that affect the gilt at the foot of the spine, otherwise the spine title gilt is nice and bright. The lower board is clean an tidy. There is a previous owners neat pencil address to black FEP, dated 1910, on the verso there is a previous booksellers pencil price. There is a frontispiece plate (with tissue guard present) before the first title page, and a second frontispiece before the title page of Round the Moon, that was not issued with a tissue guard. 280 pgs plus 12pg publishers catalogue to rear. Grades very good condition. For grading accuracy books are photographed without a protective book cover. Note we do not use stock images, the book pictured is the book described. A very pleasing example of this Verne title that contains the stories "From the Earth to the Moon" and "Round the Moon". Whilst not a scarce edition, this particular copy is perhaps one of the best examples currently available and is priced accordingly.
