About This Item
This book is in good condition, although the dust jacket is torn in many places. There is minimal wear on the front, back, edges, and spine of the cover boards. There is no bumping and little fraying on the cover boards. The dust jacket is taped down on the cover boards. The pages are beginning to yellow, but the pages are clear of any markings.
"When, after thirty years, Henrietta Blackwell returned to Great Island, garlanded in her private grief, she was still a remarkably beautiful woman and something of a legend.
The boatman's eyes had gone to her un-ringed left hand, the moment she stepped onto his deck, and he had called her 'Miss Henrietta' until the servant Rosa, blowing about in a small, fierce tempest, had rebuked him with assorted languages. He had shrugged and substituted 'Madam Bryce' though he knew as well as all the island did that the title was a polite fiction and that the elopement of three decades past had never been blessed by Church nor approved by Law...." - Chapter One from The Moon and the Thorn
