The text is illustrated with colour and black and white photographs the black-and-white photographs tend to be historical of Claude Monet and his world; along with contemporary coloured photographs. When Monet created his water garden / pond at Giverny and then planted the pond with water lilies, he did so at a whim, never thinking to actually paint them. But, when he was struck by the enchantment of his pond and its waterlilies, they became his most celebrated and painted flowers.
