'Modern Reports' is an extensive set of books published in the 17th- and 18th-centuries in England describing various court cases – reason for the ruling and outcome. Edited and collected by Anthony Colquitt, these works are known to be referenced and used in law schools throughout the western world. And while they are used for educational purposes, they are exceedingly rare and rarely available for sale or placed at auctions.
This specific set of five volumes was from the library of Irish lawyer Constantine Phipps, Lord Chancellor of Ireland.

Sir Constantine Henry Phipps (1656–1723) was an English-born lawyer who held the office of Lord Chancellor of Ireland. His term of office was marked by bitter political faction-fighting and he faced repeated calls for his removal.
His descendants held the titles Earl of Mulgrave and Marquess of Normanby.
Notably his great grandson was Constantine John Phipps, 2nd Baron Mulgrave PC (177-1792) who was an esteemed English explorer, officer in the Royal Navy, and politician.
Sir William Phipps, the Governor of Massachusetts 1692-94, was his cousin.

Plate belongs to the Monsell family of Tervoe.
Most likely this plate was that of Gaston Thomas William Monsell, 2nd Baron Emly of Tervoe (1858-1932).
