This is 3 volumes of Victor Hugo: Les Miserables (1862) and Ninety-Three, which was Hugo's last novel, published in 1874.
This set was published in 1887 by the American publisher John Wanamaker.
They are quite plain; burgundy boards with gold lettering on the spine. The covers need a good brushing/cleaning.
Volume I – Les Miserables, 315 pages
There is a bookplate which can be removed.
At the title page, there is a full-page black and white plate of the famous orphan girl image. There are at least another 5 b&w full-pages plates.
The covers show shelfwear to the spine and a couple of bruises.
Volume II – Les Miserables, 406 pages
The condition is the same as Volume 1, except that pages 179-187 have a little mark at the top, as if someone put something on top of the book just there.
No book plate. There are at least 10 full-page b&w plates.
Volume II – 429 pages, Les Miserables to page 347, then Ninety-Three
The condition is the same as Volume 1, except that there is a white mark on the cover. I haven't made any attempt to clean it.
No book plate. There are at least 10 full-page b&w plates.
In all cases, the binding is as it would have been on the day they were printed.
The interiors are pristine, with no yellowing and no marks of any kind. (My photos all have a yellow tinge to them—lighting.)

Thomas Y. Crowell & Co.. Very Good. 1888. Leather Bound. Appears to be complete set, but may not be. Apparently, Crowell issued a Hugo set with several bindings in 1888, and no other books are included in the other sets. Translated by Isabel Hapgood. All books in three-quarters brown leather with marbled paper. Same marbled paper for endpages. On all seven volumes, bindings are solid, except History of a Crime is weak at front hinge. Pages are unmarked and only slightly aged. Marbled edges as well. Leather portions of covers show some wear, especially at spine tips, but titles are all still legible. Paper portions of covers generally fine. No dustjackets at issue. .

Volumes are clean and in very good condition overall. Each volume copiously illustrated with designs by CHIFFLART, D. VIERGE, VICTOR HUGO, BAYARD, BRION, JOHANNOT, G. ROCHEGROSSE, DE NEUVILLE, MORIN, VALNAY, and other eminent French artists. A very nice set.
