John Aubrey was an English antiquary, natural philosopher, and writer. "In the Miscellanies psychic marvels and mysteries are related, classified and documented, in a most diverting way. Accounts of premonitions, poltergeists and hauntings are frequently borrowed from ancient literature.... The Text for this miniature has been taken from the fourth edition of the Miscellanies published in London in 1827." It was the only work Aubrey published in this life time.
