G. P. Putnam's Sons: 'Knickerbocker Edition'. Undated, abt. 1900. Red cloth over boards with contrasting grain patterns (minor blemishes to surface sheen on several volumes). Gilt stamped on front cover with double egret design and the Macaulay motto 'Dulce periculum.' Gilt stamped titles and fancy gold design on spine. Top edges gilt (slightly worn on one volume), and deckled fore-edges. Two-color title page; tissue-guarded frontispieces and many interior etchings; decoratice head and tailpieces. Minor shelf wear on most boards. Tightly bound. Owner bookplates on each front pastedown 'Owen Shoemaker,' who was the co-owner of the historic bookbinder supplies company J. L. Shoemaker & Co. of Philadelphia, established 1880-1954. All volumes are tightly bound and interiors are crisp and clean. Most volumes appear never read. 12mo, 4041 total pages. Index in volume 10 for all volumes. Multiple volume set may require additional postage.
