An exhaustive guide to New York, with much detailed information, including that the pear tree imported from Holland in 1647 and planted by Governor Stuyvesant was still alive at the corner of 13th and Third Avenue "the only living relic which preserves the memory of the renowned Dutch Governor". A new pear tree was planted in the spot in 2003.
