Illustrated with black-and-white line drawings, colour reproductions of art works, and colour photography. Colour illustrated dust jacket. The dust jacket has been trimmed on the front fold over flap by the publisher, and bears and ISBN, and an original price of £ 1.85. There are traces of foxing to the top edge of the text block, and there is abrasion at the bottom right-hand side of the rear panel, the top edge of the dust jacket is lightly rubbed . Every custom, every tradition, has a starting point. Major Gordon has spent a lifetime research into military history full explanations to the thousand and one queries put to him over 30 years as a British Army regular officer, chief instructor at an officer's training unit. The matter of this book ranges over the whole field of military history and knowledge. Individual chapters deal with such varied subjects as artillery, heraldry, military Finance and Aeronautics. There is also a final section the gathers together all those things that just don't fit into any neat category. on the verso of the dustjacket, and at the top left of the front panel, can be seen water tide marks, probably from central heating condensation.
