Illustrator: Photographic. 700 grammes; X, 222 pages, last 3 Blank, acknowledgements, forward by author, notes, bibliography and index. The text is illustrated with contemporary black-and-white photographs and reproductions of the novelist's books dust wrappers. Black coloured boards with gilt writing on the spine. Gilt printers' cartouche to the lower spine edge. A little rubbing to the top and bottom spine edge and shelfwear to the lower book edges. Rubbing to the book corners. Photographic dust wrapper, showing Miles Franklin as a young woman, against a black background with red and white writing on the front panel and on spine. Small white printers' cartouche to the lower spine edge. Light rubbing to the edges of the dust wrapper. Some rubbing to the panels of the dust wrapper as well. After the initial success of " My Brilliant Career " in 1901, the author Miles Franklin left for America five years after the publication and then stayed for over 20 years. During this time she became involved with the Chicago Labour movement. In this book the author uses Miles Franklin's own diaries and letters from that period of time to contender, she was neither a successful as a Labour union agitator for women nor as a writer. Her writing was mediocre at best until she came back to reconnect with her homeland. This is the first Australian edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
