This issue contains: The Scent of Death - Mike Shayne by Brett Halliday; One Blonde, Well Dead - a novelet by Joe R. Lansdale; Three Hot Days by Edward D. Hoch; All the Way Home by James M. Reasoner; Pit of Time by Frank Sisk; Sacrifice by Richard A. Moore; Speak to Me, Marcel by R. Edward Moore; and Murder Blooms by Charles E. Fritch. Created by Brett Halliday, a pen name used by Davis Dresser, Mike Shayne appeared in over seventy novels and three hundred short stories, beginning with Dividend on Death in 1939. A number of writers used the Brett Halliday name, along with Dresser, including Robert Terrall, Ryerson Johnson, and Dennis Lynds. In 1940, the first Mike Shayne movie was made, Michael Shayne, Private Detective starring Lloyd Nolan, followed by eleven more films, six of them starring Lloyd Nolan and five more with Hugh Beaumont. Then there was the weekly radio show and, in 1960, the television series, with Richard Denning in the lead role. All in all, a fairly successful franchise.. First Edition. Soft cover.
