VI, 7-288 pages, list of illustrations, preface to the first edition, preface to the second edition, The Witnesses, sources and index. Map illustrated endpapers showing the Armada Campaign. The text is illustrated with four inserts of black-and-white photographs and contemporary illustrations along with three separate line figures within the text. Brown coloured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper, showing both the Spanish and English naval flags against a yellow background with red and black titles to the front panel and backstrip. This book was first published in 1963 and was updated with new material in 1987. A history of the defeat of the Spanish Armada as seen by, and fought by, actual eyewitnesses and participants. The author, was the discoverer of the Elizabethan ship "Mary Rose" in 1965 and finally helped raise her from the depths of the sea in 1982, 400 years after she sank.
