A lovely clean crisp very tight copy with bright covers with slight fading to spine and no bumping to corners. 116pp. The written history of Wakefield by Henry Clarkson and the drawings of Henry Clarke were first published together in 1889 under the title of this book as its second edition. Clarkson was surveyor to the famous engineer George Stephenson and some of his tales provide an absorbing insight into the development of the railways as well as local customs, bear baiting, punishments and the Luddites. Clarke was surgeon at Wakefield Prison. This is not a reprint of the second edition but a complete re-working of the text to incorporate Clarke's drawings for the first time. . Paperback. Near Fine.
