Of these Memoires, the author of the entry in Biblioteca Britannica notes, " it is an excellent work, betraying, however, much party spirit." Extra-illustrated for Thomas Herbert, 8th Earl of Pembroke (1656 1733), this copy remained in the Pembroke library until its public sale by Sotheby's on March 15 17, 1920. This copy appears as Lot 201. The first public sale of the Pembroke library was on June 23, 1914. Since its sale in 1920, this copy travelled first to Scotland, then to the United States, where it was in a private collection.
