No. 351 of 1500, quarto size, 521 pp., signed by Rene ben Sussan, with LEC Monthly Letter and announcement. Casanova was recognized by his contemporaries as a most extraordinary man of far-ranging intellect and curiosity and was one of the foremost chroniclers of his age. He was, by vocation and avocation, a lawyer, clergyman, military officer, violinist, con man, pimp, gourmand, dancer, businessman, diplomat, spy, politician, medic, mathematician, social philosopher, cabalist, playwright, and writer. He wrote over twenty works, including plays and essays, letters, as well as his this memoir which was the result of his isolation and boredom in his last years. He began writing his memoirs around 1780, as "the only remedy to keep from going mad or dying of grief" (n.,b. info from Wiki).

___DESCRIPTION: Cream toned buckram is printed with an allover flower-and-leaf pattern; parchment spine is stamped in pure gold leaf; sixteen full-page water colour illustrations and sixteen in-text line drawings; Lutetia type on cream-white wove paper; 12" tall; pagination: (i) - xvii, (1) - 502, blank (503), colophon (504); signed by illustrator Rene Ben Sussan; Limited Edition no. 1234 of 1500; original glassine wrapper. Monthly Letter and announcement loosely laid in. Slipcase is covered with red-orange paper with cream label on spine with grey text.

___CONDITION: A fine copy; the covers clean, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. The glassine wrapper just about fine with some very minor wear to the head of the spine; the Letter and announcement are both fine, clean and absolutely without wear. The slipcase is in near fine condition; sturdy and strong with bright red-orange colour, the label with minor soil and wear and minor wear to the extremeties.
