Providence [R.I.] : Printed by B.T. Albro, 1843-01-01. 2nd. Hardcover. Acceptable. An unsophisticated copy. Internal binding weak. Contemporary marbled boards. 127 pages. Lacking portrait. Signed Mary H. Stoddard. Field 489. Sabin 22101. (Both citing 1st ed). "The subject of this memoir was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, in 1785, and was the granddaughter of a Narraganset Indian squaw and an African chief." Eldridge's father earned his freedom from slavery serving in the American Revolution. Of Green, "Her first vol. was Memoirs of Eleanor Elbridge [sic], a coloured woman, of which more than 30,000 copies were sold."--S.A. Allibone, Critical dictionary of English literature and British and American authors, 1859. This book was written to assist Ms. Eldridge pay her legal bills related to a creditor's attempt to illegally expropriate her land. Various poems and prose pieces about Elleanor Eldridge signed by various authors: p. 103-127.
