Foxing on frontispiece, cloth on spine ends worn, but a tight and attractive about very good copy of this memoir of a former slave who rose through his own industry to eventually become hairdresser to the most fashionable ladies in New York, and a pillar of both the black community and the Catholic Church.

Haitian born slave Toussaint wnt on to be a well-known hairdresser in New York city and a leading member of the Catholic Church.
