Brown cloth with gilt titles and decoration, gilt text edges. Wear to extremities, corners bumped, mild rippling and some soiling to cloth, isolated soil spots to interior, front hinge cracked, one signature partially detached. Contains 8 plates of tinted lithographs drawn by L Aubrun, and published by Thomas Hunter, of the buildings of the Centennial: Main Building (frontispiece) Art Gallery, Machinery Hall, Horticultural Hall, Agricultural Hall, US Government Building, Women's Pavilion, Judge's Hall. The book was designed by the publisher with sheets of lightly lined note paper for use by visitors to record their experiences at the Centennial or to insert photographs or engravings of their own. The title page leaves a space for the owner to insert his or her name. However Ms Manypenny instead wrote her name on the front pastedown, and had a number of her friends hand write personal letters and greetings to her, unrelated to the Centennial, on some of these note pages. The friends are Eva M. Miller (1889), Elizabeth E. Marsh (1905), Rena S. Briggs (1889), "your niece Josie" (1890), Annie E. Robinson (1917), Norman B. Baldwin and Caroline E. Baldwin, Mrs T.P.Seeley (Chicago-1889).
