About This Item

New York: Frederick Ungar Publishing Co, 1966. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo. Full blue cloth. Volume One: x, 354 pp. Bruise to spine head. Volume Two: ix, 454 pp. Spine slightly tilted. Both volumes sunned to spines. Dust jackets are clipped to corners of flaps but original price intact. Both jackets sunned to spine and extremities, a few small damp stains, light bumping to extremities. Small chip and short tear to top edge of front of jacket of volume two. This monumental study of the background of Dante's Divine Comedy, with its brilliant analysis of the great poem itself, is truly "one of the most fascinating accounts available of the great Italian as a personality and of that combination of influences which brought his genius to its outflowering." (Boston Transcript on first publication, from front flap).
