Red half-leather with banded spine and black spine-label and lightly rubbed marbled covers, previous owner's stamp for Charles Henry Lane on inside of front cover, paper split over front internal hinge but binding is otherwise sound, clean pages, colour plates with protective tissue leaves. Groombridge and Sons, 1861. 1st edition. Hardcover. Good/No Dust Jacket. Hardcover. 3 volume set. Matching red cloth boards with gold medal design to each front board. Medal designs are rubbed and faded. Boards are noticeably soiled and worn. Frayed corners and spine ends, with some spine loss to sun darkened spines. Gilt edges. Cracked hinges, a few pages starting to loosen, however it is all intact. Color plates are tissue guarded. Previous owner's name on half title pages of all three volumes. Text pages are clean. Always carefully wrapped and shipped in cardboard boxes to protect your purchase.
