San Francisco: The Colt Press, 1946. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Miller, Henry; Dean, Mallette. One of 500 copies, square octavo, [78] pp., inscribed by Jane Grabhorn. Warmly inscribed by Jane Grabhorn "To Bill and Molly / to whom, if I could,/ I would dedicate / all my books - / Jane / May 8, 1946", with her parents' bookplate on the front pastedown. The illustrations from the original water colors by Henry Miller were interpreted by Mallette Dean on linoleum blocks; printed at the Grabhorn press and included in the Exhibition of Western Books (Rounce & Coffin Club). Henry Miller, in this essay springing from "The Maurizius Case" by Jacob Wassermann (published in 1929), has given us a melange of philosophy, history, justice, and a critique of civilized society; incredibly thought-provoking, a must-read for anyone interested in the concept of justice on this earth.
