About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1988. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 9" by 6". Quentin Blake. The first edition of the iconic novel 'Matilda', signed by both Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake, their signatures tipped-in to the title page, rare to find in such a lovely condition. The first edition, first impression of this work.Signed by Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake, their signatures tipped in to the title page.In the original unclipped dustwrapper.'Matilda' is one of the most iconic children's novels ever written. The magical novel follows Matilda Wormwood, a brilliant young girl who was born to terrible parents. She learns to read at the age of three and half, becoming a precocious child in school, her brilliance recognised only by one teacher, Miss Honey. In 1996 a film adaptation was produced, directed by Danny DeVito.Illustrated with in-text illustrations throughout by Quentin Blake. Blake is well beloved for his iconic illustrations of Dahl's novels, the two becoming synonymous.Dahl is one of the most beloved children's writers of the twentieth century, known for his unsentimental and macabre children's novels, though he wrote extensively for adults too. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, fine, with just a small mark to the rear board. A few light spots to the fore edge. Dustwrapper is a little edge worn with a few light spots. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Signatures tipped in to the title page. In a very bright condition for a children's novel. Fine

Roald Dahl does it again with his tale of little Matilda . Matilda is a genius. She knows that, and so does her teacher Miss Honey, but every other adult in her life is short-sighted and mean.  Can this odd, lovable little girl manage to find a better family to live with?
