NEWBERY AWARD WINNER. The story tells about life in the Hudson Valley in 1776. Beautfully illustrated by PAUL LANTZ with 6 double page color lithographs, 6 full page and many partial page black & white lithos. This is a REVIEW COPY WITH THE SLIP LAID-IN AND ALSO HAS A ONE PAGE TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY EDMONDS on his personal stationery. Written to a fan Edmonds discusses the Matchlock Gun and mentions where to look for the historical basis of the book. Very scarce in such nice condition and a super special copy with the review slip and the letter from Edmonds (who is not known for having signed many books).
