About This Item
New York: Harper & Row, 1967. First American Edition. Good. Advance uncorrected proof of the first American edition. Bound in publisher's plastic comb bound wraps, lacking the rear cover. Good. A good majority of the binding's teeth are broken, and the front cover is detached and torn along the top half. Pages toned. A rare survival, though in a fragile state.
Synopsis
The Master and Margarita is a novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, woven around the premise of a visit by the Devil to the fervently atheistic Soviet Union. Many critics consider the book to be one of the greatest novels of the 20th century, as well as one of the foremost Soviet satires, directed against a social order seen as suffocatingly bureaucratic.
