About This Item

In German and Latin. 137 pages. Volume is solid, binding tight, all pages intact and unmarked, with a little soiling of boards, and a little age-darkening.

Bears signature of former owner, Prof. K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study.

German archivist and historian Theodor Ilgen (1854-1924) received his doctorate in history at the University of Marburg and afterwards worked as an archivist at the state archives in Marburg, Düsseldorf and Münster. From 1900 to 1921 he was director of the archives at Düsseldorf.
His biographical monograph of Conrad of Montferrat has been reprinted many times, but this original 1880 edition is extremely hard to find.

Corrado del Monferrato ( d. 1192) was a north Italian nobleman, one of the major participants in the Third Crusade and the de facto King of Jerusalem (as Conrad I) as a result of his marriage to Isabella I of Jerusalem. He was also the eighth Marquess of Montferrat from 1191, and a Crusader of distinction, thwarting Saladin on several occasions.
