Good condition, showing the results of being carried in a pocket or ruck sack (the covers and corners of the fragile binding show some wear; lower right corner of front cover appears to have been bent). A paperback original. Book has been bound into hard cover boards with quarter leather by Dr. Arthur W. Weyesse in 1952. Boards are Very Good with small stain to front and edge and corner wear. Dancing Sandwiches and Brown stamped to spine. Book is Fine minus with age toning to pages and appears unread. Unusual item.

Unmarked except for early previous owner's inscription (see photo). Virually no foxing at all. First tissue guard is torn at bottom but others are intact. Biographical and historical narratives with many full-page engravings. 9" x 11". Some scuffing to leather and light wear to extremities, and light chipping to top of spine of volume 2. A very good plus copy of this beautifully produced work.

London: Unpublished, 1887. Kate Greenaway's autograph on laid paper, apparently clipped from a larger piece of stationery. Written at her home in Hampstead in the famous illustrator's hand in black ink: "Kate Greenaway, 17 September 1887, 50 Frognal, Hampstead, London--N.W."
