Toronto: Oxford University Press, 1960. 32 pages. Illustrated in line and 3-colour (black, red, blue to better represent topo map colour scheme) on alternate pages. Yellow hardcover with lettering and illustration in black. Boards are clean, sharp-cornered, unworn; yellow is slightly mottled. Binding tight, contents clean and bright with no ownership or other marks. Dust jacket shows mild to moderate edgewear with several short closed edge tears, nicks to extremities; now protected in new mylar cover. An exceptionally nice copy of this uncommon book. Jimmy and his friend are promised a helicopter ride if they can get to the airfield at Redrock (an imaginary town in Eastern Ontario) on their own. Jimmy's Grandpa (a retired surveyor and cartographer) helps them earn the ride by teaching them to use a topographical map and compass. Finally they get their promised ride and see the countryside spread out below them looking both like and unlike their map. Maps are magical!. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good. Illus. by Author. 11.25" x 8.75" (28.5cm x 22.5cm).
