Richmond Virginia: Ayers & Wade, 1863. Very good. 12 mo. (7 x 4 1/2 inches) 298 + (1) pages, 30 lithographed black and white plates, original cloth-backed marbled wrappers, a few leaves browned "This was the standard manual for Confederate surgeons. Chisolm was a leading southern physician and served for a time as chief surgeon of the military hospital at Richmond. Crandall lists Richmond editions of 1861 and 1862 with no plates, an 1861 Charleston edition with no plates, and an 1864 Columbia, S. C. edition with only 26 plates." There are eight plates illustrating the arteries, fourteen plates illustrating amputation, and eight plates illustrating resection.
