Warsaw: Galeria Foksal PSP Books, 1978. Quarto (29.5 × 21 cm). Original photo-illustrated wrappers; [8] pp. Inventory label to front wrapper and rubber "withdrawn" stamp; else about very good. Cataog of an exhibit held at Foksal Gallery in Warsaw in September 1978. The gallery was founded in 1966 by contemporary artists and former members of the Polish constructivist group of the 1920s. It was intended as a non-commercial space, and operated in a nonofficial way, managing to stage numerous exhibits of avant-garde and neo-avant-garde art, including action art and happenings, sometimes by artists of international repute, in spite of the limitations of the communist regime. Szewczyk (1950-2001) was a Polish painter and sculptor who first exhibited at the gallery in 1977. From the artist's statement: "Presented pictures are repainted fragments of walls of fishermen's houses from the village Chłopy. The paintings retain the full size scale. Geometrical patterns result from construction of frames of the buildings; their outer parts are always made visible. The same materials have been applied to do the painting... The material is thus arranged without any changes, so that the relationships with the object do not infringe and are not infringed.... Due to the constant presence of scale and time (the method of repainting), painting is not skeletonized."
