Unlisted Publisher, 1861. Map. Very Good. Map size - 7.75"x9". Leaf size - 9"x10.5". Clean with some folds; probably from a book. Very short closed tear at right margin; small piece of tape on reverse. Uncommon Civil War map showing the Battle of Port Royal. Publisher unknown, but probably contemporary. The Battle of Port Royal was one of the earliest amphibious operations of the American Civil War, in which a United States Navy fleet and United States Army expeditionary force captured Port Royal Sound, South Carolina, between Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina, on November 7, 1861. The sound was guarded by two forts on opposite sides of the entrance, Fort Walker on Hilton Head Island to the south and Fort Beauregard on Phillip's Island to the north.

Corner bumped. 902pp., photographic reproductions, and in addition to the alphabetical memoirs of each soldier there are also these documents: Chronological List of Engagements by States, Constitution of the Confederate States and Members of the Provisional and Regular Congress of the Confederate States. Clean, no names, no writing. 4to gray cloth. A much needed and enormous undertaking. Contains 2,006 entries. BASIC TEXAS 223 -"Predominantly Texans, common soldier recollections, delightful insights into the life of the soldier." NEVINS II-248.

Very Rare, Unpublished Doctoral Thesis. A Presentation Copy Signed and Inscribed by the Author, Frank Allen Dennis, but the Signature and Inscription is Partially Marked-Out. This Book is in Acceptable Condition. The Gray Buckram Boards have Light Rubbing and Light Edgewear but No Tears, Creases, Stains, or Any Major Damage. The Binding is Strong and Intact but with Slight Sagging, typical in such a Large Book. The Interior is Clean and Unmarked (other than the Partially Marked-Out Author's Signature and Inscription) with No Writing, Highlighting, or Underlining and have Occasional Very Light Foxing but No Tears, Creases, Stains, or Other Major Damage. The Interior does have a Slight Musty Odor, though the Musty Odor is not overpowering, it and Foxing are the only reasons this Book is only in Acceptable Condition. OCLC shows no holdings for this order. Signed in type: Gideon Welles, Secretary of the Navy, Andrew Johnson, President and W. Hunter, Acting Secretary of State. Announcement of the order by President Johnson to end the naval blockade against foreign commerce, except in the ports of Galveston, Lasalle, Brazos de Santiago (Port Isabel) and Brownsville, Texas. "All such offenders will be held and dealt with as pirates." Although Lee had surrendered in April 1865, the Confederate armies in Texas had not surrendered, hence the U. S. naval blockade on Texas ports needed to be maintained.

[Lincoln][Ohio] Memorial Badge worn by Ohio Veterans. [Marietta, Ohio?]: [Washington County Veteran Association] [Circa 1915?] Medal. 9 cm total. Hanger is of a brass type metal with a celluloid "Member" plaque. A red, white, and blue ribbon is attached to a celluloid disk (4.5 cm) with the likeness of President Abraham Lincoln. Written around Lincoln's likeness is "Washington County, Ohio, Veterans Association - 1861 - 1865". Very good.
OCLC shows no holdings. A badge worn by Union veterans who were members of the Washington County, Ohio, Veterans Association. The was a documented reunion of the Washington County Veteran Association held in Marietta, Ohio, October 13, 14, 15, 1915. Washington County sent some 4,000 soldiers to fight in the Civil War.

Green ruled cloth with liberty bell design stamped in gilt on front boards and titles stamped in gilt on spine, (the "cloth, gilt extra" binding). All edges gilt. viii, 304pp. One of the annual gift books containing poems, prose, and short stories by various authors on the subject of slavery which were compiled by Boston abolitionist Maria Weston Chapman. The books were one of the items sold at annual bazaars that were major fundraisers for the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society, This volume contains writings by William Lloyd Garrison, John Quincy Adams, Edmund Quincy, James Russell Lowell, Maria Lowell, Edmund Jackson, Wendell Phillips, David Lee Child, Joseph Mazzini, and many others. McClellan, Capt.1st Regt, Cavalry, U.S.A.......Dark brown leather covered boards with gilt titling on spine are good boards do have some minor chipping at corners and spine. Gilt titling is readable but has some fading. Spine is tight with no tearing at hinges. Pages are good but have minor tanning at edges. Illustrations of Bayonet fighting positions are ok, some have faded a bit but all appear to be viewable. Overall a good copy of a rare civil war manual, and if you want to really get good at this I'd start with some ballroom dancing lessons to get light on your feet, a video camera so you can critique your movements, Xerox some of the send paper fold out sheets in the back with the positions and make yourself some flash cards, after you master this you can take up fencing, any level of mastering a… Read More
