The book, translated from the fourth French edition, has omitted chapters on European machinery, which at the time differed substantially from American, replacing them with chapters by Charles P. Steinmetz on hysteresis and molecular magnetic friction, Dr. Cary T. Hutchinson on units and dimensions, Dr. A. E. Kennelly on impedence and the theory of alternating current.
