About This Item

New York: S.P.I. Books, A division of Shapolsky Publishers, Inc, 1992. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Plus/Near Fine. Octavo size, 444 pp., signed by Pete Brewton. Based on an 8-part investigative reporting series that was published in the Houston Post and which won the Galveston Press Club award for the best investigative series. The author claims to have uncovered "how President George Bush and Senator Lloyd Bentsen, supposed political enemies, are members of a small circle of powerful Texas businessmen who do business with the Mafia and enjoy the covert assistance of the CIA" (from dust jacket).

___DESCRIPTION: Black cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine, signed by the author on the title page, full number line on the copyright page, 16 pages of black and white photographs bound into the middle of the book of personages discussed; 9" tall, pagination: (i-xxvi), 1-418. The dust jacket shows the original price of $22.95, front and spine are black with gold lettering, back panel is gold with black lettering, showing review blurbs, front flap has a summary of the book continuing on the back flap, short author bio on the back flap.

___CONDITION: Volume is overall near fine, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, straight corners with a minimum of rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings; we are grading as very good plus due to some dustiness to the boards, a slight warp to the front board, and a hint of foxing to the edges of the text block. The unclipped dust jacket is near fine with some minor overall edgewear; note that the gold coloring on the dust jacket has a dotted effect away from the spine which appears to be a publisher's mishap.

___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply, please contact seller for details.
