Indianapolis: Hackett Publishing Company, 1994. First printing of this edition. Hardcover. Very good/No dust jacket issued. Thin octavo (standard size). Slight wear to edges and corners of boards. 92 p. Two short but important works by this French doctor and philosopher (1709 - 51), and one the first materialists. He argues, building on Descartes, that like animals man is a machine, controlled by the brain, and thinks that there is a continuity between animals and plants. His works were burbed in France and Holland, but he found a safe haven with Frederick the Great until his death.
