About This Item

Berkeley: Grassy Knoll Press, 1966. Pamphlet. 56p., wraps, illus., later (revised) edition, wraps worn, previous owner's name penned on title page else good condition. Satirical play, President Lyndon Johnson in the Macbeth role, JFK of course is Duncan, Adlai Stevenson as the Egg of Head, Robert [Kennedy] and Teddy playing themselves. The original blank verse lines are quite competently Shakespearean. The first edition was issued by the Independent Socialist Club, sold surprisingly well, and more surprisingly played New York City. Garson here notes that she "worked in consultation with Roy Levine, the director of the New York production, in expanding the play to its present form." Garson assumed correctly that LBJ's political career was in decline, incorrectly but pardonably that RFK would be next president.
