Black-and-white photograph of author and General MacArthur to the rear panel. At the end of World War II America occupied Japan. General MacArthur was the head of the occupying forces, but, the senior civilian civil servant of that occupying force was Ambassador William Sebald. This book is his reminiscences of that most fateful of periods and of the problems facing the Americans and the Japanese. Softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners.
