Black cloth (faded) with gilt lettering and publisher medallion on spine; gilt medallion on front.FON on FFEP of each volume.Covers are faded, stained, and bumped, with wear on corners and the tops & heels of spines. Volume 4 has a tear up the spine hinge and across the spine. Endpapers are discolored. Pages are age tanned and foxed. Volume 1 & 2 are cracked at half-title page.

London:: Smith, Elder and Co.,. Hardback. Full tree calf binding with raised bands to spine, gilt titles to spine and gilt decorated compartments. Decorative gilt twisted border to both boards. Gilt dentelles. Marbled endpapers and marbled to all page edges. Illustrated by Richard Doyle. The narrator is Arthur Pendennis, the protagonist of Pendennis. Leather to spine is very slightly faded and there is a hint of rubbing to spine hinges which remain strong. Text is particularly clean and crisp. Very good copy . Hardback. 1903.

First edition hardcover. 1866, New York. Condition is Very Good: Library sticker on spine, pencil note on copyright page, no other library markings. Some pencil notes on front blank, none elsewhere. Occasional foxing in text. Binding is sound. Light general wear to boards. A nice copy of an uncommon book. Author aims to offend as many people as possible and succeeds. Paginates: blanks, frontis, 312, [2], blanks, plus 11 unpaginated plates. Extremely obscure item. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: Author is brother of Samuel Comstock - infamous mutineer of the whaleship Globe. Such a lovely family. More notes: Satire aimed at (?) London: George Routledge and Sons 1867. (Hardcover) 310pp. Very good, no dust jacket. Finely bound school prize book. Brown leather elaborately stamped front and back, raised bands on the spine, and the crest of Thanet Collegiate School, Margate stamped in gilt on the front cover. Marbled endpapers, all edges stained red, illustrations, including engraved plates. The book has been damp at the top with some penetration to the pages and a previous owner's inscription inside. This is a lovely, century and a half old copy of one of the classic works of literature.

London: Henry Colburn 1841. (Hardcover) 484pp. Very good, no dust jacket. Three quarter leather binding, marbled endpapers, marbled edges, frontispiece. Light wear along the edges, back of frontispiece spotted. Anonymously written by Edward George Bulwer-Lytton. (Fiction).

London : Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, & Brown, and Taylor & Hessey, 1822 A scarce copy of the 1st edition of this work in 2 volumes in the original publisher's boards. The title page states that the work was 'by a young lady. Also by her father' - the young lady in question was Mary Roberts (related to the Mary Roberts of natural history fame). It was sold by subscription. This copy has a small ink signature of Mary Alderson to both volumes - who is possibly related to one of the subscribers - Revd. J Alderson. The publisher's binding is in very poor condition - it was not intended to last - and the contents are untrimmed - awaiting proper binding. These two small hardcover books, published in London in 1898, are decorated with lovely gold decor on the covers and were issued without dustjackets.
