Original bookstore receipt is taped iside back cover. Glossy pictorial DJ is VERY GOOD with slight chipping, now protected in mylar cover. h Extraordinary story of the man who was sent by Russian Tsar Alexander to secure the Russian colonies in Alaska and extend them into California, where he married Maria-Concepcion Arguello, the beautiful daughter of the San Francisco Presidio's commandant, with an eye to securing California via marriage. Rezanov's early death left the plan without another person of adequate energy or ability and Russia gave up its attempt to colonize California, finally giving up its stake in Alaska in 1867. The story has been well-researched through Russian and American sources, as named in the Bibliography. An amazing story of what might-have-been and what nearly-was.
