About This Item

The Military Office of the French Occupation, 1925. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to 11" - 13" tall. Place of publication is not given for this work, and a search in WorldCat reveals this edition is alleged (but without definition) to be from 1925. Rebound in quite lovely fashion in a creamy green leather, with diagonal stamping and with 21 gilt stars embossed to front and rear covers, with beveled edges, sharp and distinct gilt stamping of title to spine, new endpapers of marbled green decoration, a bit sunned along the edges. Urdu language for the bulk of this unusual tome, tres scarce to the trade, there currently being only one additional copy available. French language title at rear, noting the presence of 247 gravures coloriees (of banners, pins, weapons, staffs, and the like). French language title is rendered there, a Romanized rendering opposite from the Urdu. The author was the General Divionnaire, Inspecteur General de 1er, 2me et 3me Ordous, a Pasha, Pacha, Pasa (the military title awarded him). There is no family name but only given names, and the author was assassinated in revenge only months beyond his assuming the role of Grand Vizier of the Turkish Army, in 1913. The illustrations are lovely, depicting as they do Ottoman Turk military uniform and dress since the 14th century. 142 pp., and with 28 leaves of colored plates. The two "parts" (implied by the French "Premier Partie" refer to the two periods of Turkish military organization. This Part engages the first 48 figures to depict the Ottomasn court functionaries, whereas the second Part (figures 1-58) represent The New Army. Captions to each illustration are in French and Urdu. Light scuffing to spine foot, beginning of a split to upper front joint. Still solid.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
