A well loved set of the first paperback editions published in the US which were unauthorized and predates the authorized editions by 10 months. The Fellowship of the Ring(A-4 is Fair with creases to spine, edgewear, rubbing and nicks and chips/flakes mostly to spine ends and corners. Pages are well tanned with chipping to front corners and some nicks/short tears to front page ends as well. Some moisture spots to page ends. The Two Towers(A-5) is about Good with some spine creases and flakes at edges. Some edge and corner wear with creasing to covers. Text block is tanned with some nicks/short tears to front page ends. The Return of the King(A-6) is Poor with spine creasing, chipping at spine ends and corners, heavy edgewear with creasing to covers. Book had previously split at spine and was somewhat reglued - as well, the cover has been reglued at spine and is barely attached as hinge is missing a fair amount of flakes/chips. Flakes to rear hinge as well. Text block is also quite tanned with some nicks and a few small moisture stains and loose pages. The Cover and title page art by Jack Gaughan.
