The first edition of this work, in the original and scarce unclipped dustwrapper. A volume detailing different types of vessels, profusely illustrated by H. Hudson Rodmell, various plates in monotone and four coloured plates throughout.Inscribed by the author to front free endpaper, "To John Masefield with great affection (item: I think this is the first book to be published, actually, on the High Seas!)/ R.M.S. Tuscania 1923." David Bone was a noted captain and shipmaster, born in Glasgow and gone to sea for the first time at sixteen in the City of Florence, and shortly after became Commodore Master of the fleet. He was Captain to the SS Tuscania from New York on its first trip to Glasgow.Poet Laureate John Masefield's association copy, gifted to him from Captain Bone. Loosely inserted in this volume, a four page review of the book by John Masefield. With unclipped dustwrapper. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally lovely with only minor shelfwear and slight bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Inscribed by author to front free endpaper "To John Masefield with great affection (item: I think this is the first book to be published, actually, on the High Seas!)/ R.M.S. Tuscania 1923." High Sea Bookshop bookplate to front pastedown, as well as John Masefield's library sticker to front pastedown. Loosely inserted, a review of the book by John Masefield. Dustwrapper is unclipped and sound with slight chipping, minor loss to head and tail of spine, and minor puncture marks to spine. Slight sunning to spine to wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Minor faint scattered spotting to fore edge, affecting only the occasional leaf, particularly to first few leaves. Illustrated with monotone and coloured plates by H. Hudson Rodmell. Very Good Indeed
