About This Item

New York: Scribner’s, 1929. First Edition of Wolfe’s first novel. A little offsetting to the endpapers; small bookplate; about fine in a very good or better first issue dust jacket (state? printing? The last appears most likely to be correct. While often treated as such, these terms are not synonymous.). This jacket has very minor wear and some tiny chips; small tape pieces removed from the verso, one of which has bled through at the top of the back panel. In a custom quarter-morocco slipcase with chemise (lightly worn).

Synopsis

Look Homeward, Angel: A Story of the Buried Life is a 1929 novel by Thomas Wolfe. It is Wolfe's first novel, and is considered a highly autobiographical American Bildungsroman. The character of Eugene Gant is generally believed to be a depiction of Wolfe himself. The novel covers the span of time from Gant's birth to the age of 19. The setting is the fictional town and state of Altamont, Catawba, which is considered to be a not-so-subtle mirror of his hometown, Asheville, North Carolina.
