Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox, 1974. Revised First Draft script for the 1975 film. Included are twp sets of bound revisions (one dated June 3, 1974, and one dated June 18, 1974), as well as a bi-fold card program from the film's premiere. Directed and written for the screen by Peter Bogdanovich, featuring a score that consists entirely of songs composed by Cole Porter, and starring Burt Reynolds, Cybill Shepherd, and Madeline Kahn. The eclectic director's tribute to the musicals of Hollywood from the 1930s and 1940s, which utilized an inventive style that involved non-professional actors singing their lines live rather than the very established use of overdubs. The reception to the film was so poor upon its release that Bogdanovich released a public apology for its quality; however, over time, its innate charm has made it beloved among many film fans and cinephiles. SCRIPT: Red titled wrappers, dated May 20, 1974. Title page present, dated May 20, 1974, noted as REVISED FIRST DRAFT, with credits for screenwriter Bogdanovich and composer Porter. 152 leaves, mechanically reproduced. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine bound with two gold brads. REVISION SET NO. 1: 59 revision leaves on blue stock, with memorandum leaf bound on top on pink stock, and a red card front wrapper with titles in black.
