A vivid chronicle of city life in 1890's London by American illustrator Gibson, depicting the fashionable set on Bond Street, Hyde Park, the theater, court, a sporting club, salons, a presentation at the palace and portraits of George du Maurier and Phil May. Includes detailed sketches of city streets where "at every corner, small sweeps and big policemen, providing clean and safe crossing, while push-carts dodge in and out between steaming bus horses and Handsome cabs." Some of the drawings were previously published in Life and London Graphic.

Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944) is best known for his work published by Colliers and Life, where his drawings of Gibson Girls (based on his wife) defined the feminine ideal of the time.

CONDITION: Good +, 2" bands of toning at bottom edges of covers, moderate rubbing and soiling on cover, interior clean and fresh.
