Eight maps including endpaper maps showing Major Stobo's travels in Canada (New France, Acadia, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Louisbourg, Crown Point, etc) and the American colonies (Fort Niagara, Fort Duquesne, Fort Ticonderoga, Fort Necessity, Annapolis, Williamsburg, Philadelphia, Camden, Albany, Boston, etc) between 1754 and 1759. "First Printing" is so stated. French and Indian war. Seven Years War. Robert Stobo (1727 - 1770) was born in Glasgow, Scotland and as a young man emigrated to Virginia. In 1754, he became a captain in the Virginia Militia. He fought with George Washington and the British at Fort Necessity. When the British surrendered, Stobo was one of two hostages taken by the French to Fort Duquesne. Within a few months he was able, with the help of an American Indian, to smuggle a letter to the British that contained a wealth of…
