About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1901. Hardcover. 8vo. Olive green cloth with gilt lettering and gilt and dark green pictorial and decorative stamping. 360pp. Full-page illustrations, numerous marginal line drawings. Very good. Mildest of edgewear, with spine ever-so-faintly sunned as usual -- and internally a bright near fine. Wonderfully tight and attractive first edition of this charming sequel to his 1898 "Wild Animals I Have Known" with his pioneering animal fiction writing. This British-born American was a prolific author and artist and one of the Boy Scouts of America's founding fathers. Nonauthorial gift inscription on front flyleaf dated "Christmas 1901," two months after this book's copyright page "October 12 1901" release date.
