LITTLE MEN

by Alcott, Louisa May

Condition: See description

1871. Life at Plumfield with Jo's Boys. Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1871. 4 pp preliminary undated ads. Original green cloth decorated in gilt. First American Edition, published about two weeks after the London one. This is Louisa May Alcott's sequel to her vastly-successful book for children LITTLE WOMEN (two volumes, 1868-1869), in which she had portrayed her own childhood in New England -- with herself as the model for "Jo," and her sisters May, Elizabeth and Anna as (respectively) "Amy," "Beth" and "Meg."~This copy is in green cloth (purple and terra-cotta were also available, without priority), and is of the second issue, with "Nan" the first word of line 5 on p. 146 (earlier it was "now"), and without "Nearly Ready" at the top of the PINK AND WHITE TYRANNY ad. This is a near-fine, bright copy (some very faint mottling of the cloth, spine gilt slightly rubbed). Blanck 167.

Multi-volume Set

Little Men, or Life at Plumfield with Jo's Boys is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott, first published in 1871. The novel reprises characters from Little Women and is considered by some the second book of an unofficial Little Women trilogy, which is completed with Alcott's 1886 novel Jo's Boys, and How They Turned Out: A Sequel to "Little Men". Little Men tells the story of Jo Bhaer and the children at Plumfield Estate School.
