Boston: John P. Jewitt & Company, 1852. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 4to. Three quarter bound Levant morocco over green cloth, gilt lyres in compartments with morocco nameplate of Cornelia Landon on upper front board. Marbled endpapers. [344 pp.] Illustrations and engraved sheet music of 41 pamphlets bound together, including "Little Eva," a song written by John Whittier with music by Manuel Emilio. Boards somewhat soiled and a bit scuffed, with wear to corners and outer hinges. Light damp staining and foxing, tears to pp. 51 & 54 along outer margin (text unaffected), on p. 112 a tear starts from the outer edge to middle of engraving (text partially affected, but in fact music still clear and readable), o/w a very good copy. This is an excellent collection of pre-American Civil War drawing room music, with music ranging from operas, waltzes, ballads, polka, and preludes. Whittier's song was published following the popular release of Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin the same year.
