Synopsis

Little Blacknose: The Story of a Pioneer is a children's book written by Hildegarde Hoyt Swift and published in 1929. The book, subtitled “The Story of a Pioneer,” received a Newbery Honor award in 1930. Little Blacknose tells the story of the DeWitt Clinton locomotive, the first steam locomotive to operate in the United States. Told from the perspective of the engine the book includes a brief history of the railway and details about the engine’s life and adventures, from the World’s Fair to Grand Central Station.
