A few of the plates are bound in different places than listed on the contents page but all are present. 4 pages of publishers adverts for the colonial library at the rear of the book. The text and illustrations are fine, clean and bright throughout and look unread. Publishers decorative green cloth which has dark blue illustration to the front board and spine. Gilt lettering to the spine. Decorative light blue and white floral endpapers with ship and swan designs. There are a couple of small closed tears to the spine and the cloth is a bit rubbed and bumped and has a few small marks but is generally in very good condition with the gilt on the spine still quite bright. First edition, first printing of this children's classic, the first in the much loved Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis. Bound in it's original green cloth boards with sunning and spotting to the boards and spine, with a few faint marks to the boards. There is some wear to the edges, with loss to the top corner of the rear board and edge. However, the binding remains tight and in smart condition. Inside, there is a neat gift inscription to the ffep, mild toning and the occasional age spot . These are however, the only points to note internally, and the pages are clean and bright and still tightly affixed to the binding. It is beautifully illustrated by Pauline Baynes.
The book is housed in an excellent facsimile dust jacket. It is very smart and in perfect condition, complementing the book beautifully.
Overall, this is a beautiful, smart example of this very hard to find children's first. This series has been loved by generations, and continues to be enjoyed children today. This is an excellent example of this first edition at a reasonable price and would sit well in any collection, or make a very special gift.
